Many people long to travel far and wide, taking in the most exotic of sights on the most scenic of routes. Some never muster up enough PTO – or courage, for that matter – to take the journey. Some just get comfortable where they are and lose sight of those dreams. Christoph Rehage started walking on November 9, 2007. He traveled completely on foot over 4500 kilometers (2796 miles) from Beijing to Ürümqi. October 2008 marked the end of his Forest Gump-esque journey. Christoph only took breaks to take boat/plane rides to sort out bureaucracy issues or for personal reasons.

“It was just the way it would be on any normal day. Sometimes you think. Sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you worry about passports, dangers, pains, relatives and loved ones, and at other times your steps are light and you sing songs in the desert. Sometimes it is boring. And sometimes you feel at peace.”
