afropunk samurai shotgun october 3rd

After winning an online voting battle, Samurai Shotgun and 4 other bands were chosen to compete for the southern conference of AfroPunk’s battle of the bands in Atlanta. Episode 1 of this new mini-vlog series Road to Afro Punk highlights the Tampa-based band’s first journey to ATL for the AfroPunk Battle of the Bands, shot by Carlos Aye and edited by Anthony Martino. Needless to say, the quintet prevailed and will be performing the AfroPunk Festival on Saturday, October 3rd on the Red Stage (flyer down bottom). We actually just saw them live last month, which is always a pleasure. Once you get a feel for their live steez, check out their self-titled album to hear what the hype is about and then check out one of their videos to put faces to the name. If that’s not enough visual activity, then check out this other video, too. Still not satisfied? They’re actually releasing a new video sometime soon, so keep it locked.

Oh, before I forget: Samurai Shotgun lead vocalist Prince Golden invited us rock the third iteration of a yearly event he hosts called HipHopalooza along with Mike Mass‘ group Young Paris, Mighty Jai, the visionary Cambatta & some other solid artists up in Tampa on September 19th (before AfroPunk). He actually just visited 88.5 WMNF for the Saturday Night Shutdown to promote both events. Get familiar and catch the vibe:
