We’ve been following C.Shreve for a minute now, so we’re happy to share with you his latest album, Summer Ransom. Recorded between April and July of 2014, Summer Ransom is the 10th full length release from Chris Shreve’s brainchild Free the Optimus. Mixing a number of tried and true FTO soundscape architects (ILe Flottante, Shep Bryan, Handbook, P.U.R.P.) along with plenty of new connections (Whokairs?, Soul Monk, Dylan Guye) makes for what feels like a new classic in what is already a deep underground catalog. The Professor anchors all 18 tracks with features from Mike L!VE, DJ Jet, Jrusalam, Tuscon, Martin Snoddy and Trapbo’ Chad. The album was mixed and mastered by Whokairs? at his studio in Asheville, NC. You can stream the album below, but first, a word from the Professor himself:

With all the terrible injustices going on in the world, I’ve found myself wondering if an album squashing sucka MCs made any sense (because shouldn’t I talk about something deeper). My conclusion is this: I want to make rappers who aren’t real to the craft heavily uncomfortable if they’re going on before or after me at a live show. I’ve decided that before I could make the world changing music I’d like to make, I needed to take out some trash. I don’t like telling people I’m a rapper and having them roll their eyes because they associate me with the garbage they hear everyday on mainstream radio. This project is designed to further the gap between FTO and what the norm out there is.

With that said, we hope you enjoy the new project. We have been thoroughly entertained by Shreve and the whole FTO camp’s goings-on, especially his feature on WRTN2. Before you get into the full project, check out the playlist below; the three pieces together make up a short film, telling the abridged version of Summer Ransom:
