They say he ain’t shit but to D.C.-born, Maryland-raised emcee Chaz French, Pops was the realest. Just in time for Father’s Day, we came across this ode to a man who loved the streets and fathered his son from a distance. A man who was in an out of prison during D.C’s biggest crack epidemic. Through it all, the recent Motown/Capitol signee admits he would still like to be like his father and honors him well. “Pops” is the second track off Chaz French’s debut studio album True Colors – due July 14. The production rolls beautifully beneath the powerful delivery and the record is littered with group vocals that intensify the cathartic soundscape. It makes me bounce in a way that KRIT would. No wonder Complex picked it up. The first single off the album is called “Way Out” and premiered via Billboard earlier this year; Chaz has already amassed over 1 Billion streams on Spotify.
