I haven’t heard or purchased Views yet. You can here, if you want to. Zane Lowe, at least for us, burst out onto the scene after his epic interview with Kanye WestHedi Slimane! Being at forefront of his latest album release, BBC1’s Zane Lowe sat down with Drake to discuss the journey leading up to the highly anticipated completion of his latest studio album, Views. I’ve only made it about half way through this interview, but my reaction is two-fold. Drake, despite whatever shade or criticism you can throw at him, comes off as a pretty intelligent guy, which makes a lot of sense when thinking about the musical/commercial success he’s been able to achieve.

Drake, despite whatever shade or criticism you can throw at him, comes off as a pretty intelligent guy, which makes a lot of sense when thinking about the musical/commercial success he’s been able to achieve. However, it does uncover the real struggles even he has to deal with, especially as an artist, as he methodically deflected discussions about missed collaborations between himself and the likes of Jay Z and Skepta. Interestingly enough, he also cringed a bit when discussing his collaboration with Future on #WATTBA, which to date, for all intensive purposes…is still hot garbage.

To pair with his methodical style, you can almost see him acknowledge his own prowess for having the golden touch with his music. When you’re hot, you’re hot. Drake is fully aware of the avalanche he’s created, but is almost forcing humility in the process. It’s quite comical, but admirable at the same time…like it or not.

Regardless, check out the full interview below, and let us know your thoughts on Views. I’ve tried not to pay attention to the blogs, because I’ve gotten the greatest appreciation for Drakes music, months after the hype has passed. It’s almost like I can listen to him in peace. Honestly, it’s kind of been my formula for curation of a lot of creative works, especially in this age of hype. Sometimes it’s easier to let the masses trample each other to death, then raid the weapons for extra ammo. If that makes any sense. Share and enjoy!
