As you all know, we at The Nation have our roots in the great city of Miami, Florida. Growing up, I was taught by my dad, a huge sports fan, that you always rooted for the home team… win or lose. Seemed simple enough. Dan Marino manning the helm for the Dolphins…go fins! The Florida Panthers and their epic run to the Stanley Cup Finals… go cats! The Marlins, who at the time, became the youngest expansion team to capture a World Series title… and then the fastest to throw it all away, with the most epic “fire sale” in MLB history… screw it, go fish!

The Heat however… my Miami muh fuggin Heat… were a slightly different story. The Heat weren’t always this good, but for much of my childhood, they were regulars at the top of the Atlantic division…and forefront to some of the most epic Heat vs. Knicks rivalry games. Before the big 3, there was the Big 2. Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway graced Miami with a brand of basketball that any old head would be proud of. It was as rough and tumble as the NBA would allow, but despite Zo’s inside presence and Timmy’s killer crossover, the Heat could never meet the pinnacle of basketball greatness.

Fast forward some years later…and a young Chicago kid, get’s quietly picked up as the 5th overall selection of the 2003 NBA draft…and begins to work his magic…leading the Heat to their first ever championship (alongside the likes of Shaq, and Gary Peyton). For Heat fans…this was one of the most defining moments in Miami sports history…because unlike the Marlins would go on to win another World Series title in 2003 (against the formidable Yankees nonetheless), the team, led by Dwayne Wade aka Flash…was here to stay.

While Wade and the Heat plotted along their course, a storm was brewing in Middle Earth…rather Cleveland, Ohio. LeBron James, taken #1 overall in the 2003 draft class, had burst onto the NBA scene as the self proclaimed chosen 1. At first he seemingly lived up to all the hype…amazing fans on a nightly basic with his phenomenal athletic ability and pure passion for the game. But after years of falling short of a title in Cleveland…King James did the unthinkable…for some…and amazing for others…mostly me…and linked up with Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade down in South Beach. History was in the making.

In true Miami fashion…the Big 3 were welcomed with open arms to a city notoriously known for only supporting teams when shit got real. However, outside of Miami…most of the nation stewed in animosity over LeBron’s decision to better his company and odds of winning an NBA Championship. Ladies and gentlemen…this stewing in animosity over another’s decisions…especially when it relates to self improvement is called hate!

1 The Heat can’t win without LeBron James. Except when they won their first championship with Wade, and multiple playoff appearances with Zo and Hardaway.
2 The Miami Heat buy championships. Do they sell those at Wal-Mart? Acquiring the best possible players within the financial constraints of a franchise doesn’t guarantee a championship, making it to the NBA finals and winning 4 out of 7 does.
3 Miami Heat fans aren’t real fans. No argument there, but tell again the last time you bought tickets to go see your team play… and they weren’t playing the Heat.
4 The Thunder, Clippers, Spurs, Pacers and Nets are better than the Heat. Oh?
5 No one from the Heat can score outside of LeBron James. Remind me again why Dwayne Wade had the highest shooting percentage of any SG’s this season… and how Ray Allen is the greatest 3-Pt shooter in the history of the game and why the Heat had the 2nd highest offensive efficiency rating this past season…

1 Not 1, not 2…. Still waiting for someone to call the Heat’s bluff on this one…
2 LeBron and Wade are better than MJ and Pippen. This is always debatable, but these two have sure made it tough to easily dismiss this as pure trolling.Time however, will tell.
3 Miami has the greatest fans in the league. When the home teams are winning.
4 We’re the best team in the League So far so good…
5 Chris Bosh looks like a dinosaur. Yes he does, but he’s been instrumental in the Heats success from the start of the Big 3 era. You mad?

1 LeBron will never be as good as Jordan. Correct…he will never be as good as Jordan…he’ll be better. He has the ability to control the entire flow of any game, with the basketball IQ of Magic, and athletic ability that could make him successful in nearly any professional sport. MJ did have that epic baseball career though…-_-
2 LeBron is balding. He’s also a 2 time NBA Champion and 4 time league MVP…
3 LeBron is soft and flops. Flopping yes, but the NBA didn’t implement a $5,000 flopping fine because of LeBron alone. The tactic of flopping to sell calls to officials has trended upwards over the last few years as the dynamic of the game has changed to protect and prolong the health of players.
4 LeBron is not clutch. I thought this one had been put to rest…
5 LeBron couldn’t win a championship by himself in Cleveland… and for that he’ll never be the greatest. Isn’t basketball a team sport?

Whatever your level of hate may be… the fact still remains that for the 4th season in a row… LeBron and the Heat are contending for a title. For Heat fans, we’re on the verge of a dynasty…which is a massive accomplishment no matter how you look at it. If the Heat lose, the haters will neglect to recognize the 4 finals appearances and 2 championships. If the Heat win however… I feel many will go crawling back into their shells. Enjoy the rest of the NBA Finals and stay up with CLPNation.com as we continue to bring you the very best creative works across the internet.
