backcover_late_to-the_party_web_800x800 Hoo Hooooooo!!! Holy shitballs, batman; this is jammin. Check out the new album from Tampa Bay Creative Loafing’s 2012 Best Local Hip Hop Act, Infinite Skillz of BASE Inc. I first met Skillz at a benefit concert last year, and I subsequently checked out a few tracks off one of his previous projects, Slave Music. But this is the first full project of his I’ve had the pleasure of listening to in full. The beats are silly crazy, courtesy of Mr. J. You should see the stupid grin on my face. “Black Burban” might be my new anthem, but I’ve been vibing since the intro without hesitation. Did I mention the production is dope?! The beats seems to complement Skillz’ flow so well; maybe it’s the other way around? Who knows… Either way, it’s great to stream an album that has what you might call ‘bangers’ without the usual catchy, nonsensical topicality. Much like his Facebook posts, I’m drawn to the lyrics and I’m listening closely hoping to take away a few lessons for myself. As it states in the description of the album, “Infinite Skillz gives listeners insight into the odd duality growing up as a middle class minority in America forces upon you. He plays equal parts honor roll student and class clown as brings a message to the party and some fun to the thinkers.” Do yourself a favor and cop this album on iTunes or Amazon. Check out this Q&A Skillz did with 93.3 FLZ.

Whatever I choose to do is a black thing.
